Who we are

  • avuba is the Assistants’ Association of the University of Basel
  • There are currently around 2,500 PhD students and 500 postdoctoral researchers who make up the group of “teaching and research assistants” – i.e. Group III at the University of Basel
  • The board conducts avuba business and consists ex-officio of the 7 senate representatives who represent the assistants of the 7 faculties
  • The co-presidents (ideally one doctoral and one postdoctoral researcher) share the internal and external university representatives duties of avuba

What we do

  • We represent the interests of doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers at the University of Basel, both within the University and on the national stage
  • We are actively involved in securing employment structures that provide optimal conditions and offer real prospects for Group III members
  • We support the promotion of both early career researchers and teaching and research assistants at the University of Basel
  • We inform our members about academic and non-academic topics
  • We coordinate representation of Group III at the University
  • We organize presentations within the scope of lunchtime meetings
  • We provide a discrete and anonymous advisory service offered by the co-presidents on all questions relating specifically to teaching and research assistants
  • We support academic and non-academic projects, which encourage community building and expansion of networks
  • We establish and support avuba working groups
