Section 22 of the Bylaws of the University of Basel of May 3, 2012:

Assistants’ Association of the University of Basel (avuba)

1 The Assistants’ Association of the University of Basel (“avuba”) is an association of doctoral students and postdocs at the University of Basel and is organized in accordance with the Law of Associations as defined in the Swiss Civil Code (ZGB).

2 Doctoral students and postdocs automatically become members of “avuba” when they take up an appointment or matriculate at the University of Basel.

3 Doctoral students and postdocs who do not wish to be members of “avuba” are to inform the Rectorate thereof in writing. By doing so, all rights of participation in “avuba” are waived.

4 “avuba” represents the interests of its members as well as of early career researchers in the Senate and, in compliance with their regulations, the faculty and department committees and university commissions, as well as when dealing with authorities and the public. Further tasks and responsibilities are outlined in a Performance Agreement with the Rectorate.

5 “avuba” provides services doctoral students and postdocs.

6 “avuba” revenue used to perform its tasks comes from the overall budget of the University, avuba membership fees, and other income sources.
