Participation at the University of Basel

Co-determination and Groups

Bylaws of the University of Basel as of May 3, 2012 (in German only), section 22:

  1. The Assistants’ Association of the University of Basel (avuba) is an association of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers  at the University of Basel. avuba is organized in accordance with the Law of Associations, as defined in the Swiss Civil Code (ZGB).
  2. (Post-)Doctoral researchers automatically become avuba members when they take up an employment or matriculate at the University of Basel.
  3. (Post-)Doctoral researchers who do not wish to be members of avuba are to inform the Rectorate in writing, stating their registration number (address: University of Basel, Rectorate, Petersgraben 35/4, 4001 Basel; email: vizerektorat-lehre@unibas.ch. By doing so, all rights of participation in avuba expire.
  4. avuba represents the interests of its members and early career researchers, in compliance with all regulations. Representational activities take place in the senate, faculty and department committees, university commissions, as well as in exchange with authorities and the public. Further tasks and responsibilities are outlined in a Performance Agreement with the Rectorate.
  5. avuba provides services for (post-)doctoral researchers.
  6. In order to perform its tasks, avuba uitilizes budget from the University, avuba membership fees, and other sources of income.
