Alte Universität, Rheinsprung 9-10

avuba lunchtime meeting on January 25, 2018, on dual career support

You are working & researching at the University – what about your partner?

A wide-spread concern for researchers on PhD- and Postdoc-level is the situation of an accompanying partner. The latter finds himself/herself often struggling with finding a job in new surroundings, adapting to a new language and culture, lacking a professional and social network as well as knowledge about the job market.

The University of Basel is offering Dual Career support to partners of newly appointed professors only. Taking into account the challenges accompanying partners are facing, Dr. Tanja Popović, Head Welcome-/Euraxess Center, and Dr. Birgit Müller, Head Career Service Center (CSC), would like to provide tips and tricks for job seeking partners of PhD candidates and Postdocs during this lunchtime meeting and give them advice for their individual situation.

The lecture will be divided into the following parts:

  • Input presentation of around 30 minutes about important aspects to be taken into account such as permit constraints, importance of language, legal aspects, acknowledgments of foreign diploma, characteristics of the local job market, importance of social integration for job-hunting etc.
  • Followed by short one-on-one counselling interviews. Slots will be allocated on a  first come, first served basis.

*Partners are explicitly addressed and welcome to join.*
