Starting in 2026, the Swiss Federal Council plans annual cuts of 460 million CHF to universities, universities of applied sciences, ETH, and funding institutions such as the SNSF.

If Parliament approves these cuts, consequences will include:

• Loss of 1,500 SNSF-funded researchers and 500 projects
• Increased job insecurity for assistants and higher tuition fees for students
• Decline in quality of teaching, research, and student support
• Loss of innovation capacity and reputation for Switzerland
