Co-president 2025 - job description

The avuba Co-Presidium represents the assistants, i.e., currently around 2,700 doctoral and 500 postdoctoral researchers as well as early career researchers at University of Basel.

The Co-Presidents 2024 will be elected at the avuba General Meeting 2024 for the duration of one year. The Co-Presidium is part of the avuba Board. If possible, it consists of one doctoral and one post-doctoral representative from different faculties. Balanced gender representation should be aimed for. The two Co-Presidents are each employed on a 20% basis. Their salary is consistent with the University of Basel Doc 2 tariff.

As an avuba Co-President you are responsible for implementing the decisions made by the Board and the annual General Meeting. The General Managers Amancaya and Patricia will support you in all administrative matters. As Co-President, you connect the Board with the General Managers, and it is therefore your responsibility to monitor the Co-Managers' activities who are subordinated to the entire Board. Good German skills are a prerequisite.

Representative duties:

  • Representing avuba towards the university and third parties;
  • Preparing avuba publications;
  • Making avuba demands known to internal and external bodies;
  • Exchange with the Rectorate;
  • Exchange with doctoral and postdoctoral representatives on (cross-faculty) committees;
  • Developing the avuba strategy, in cooperation with the Board;
  • Involving the Board in case of urgent/extraordinary events.

Administrative duties:

  • Staff responsibility towards the avuba General Managers;
  • Planning, preparing and implementing services for (post)doctoral researchers, as decided by the Board;
  • Approving payments, in collaboration with the General Managers;
  • Convening, preparing and chairing the Board meetings and the General Meeting.
