Funding for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers
Young scientists - deadline February 1 and September 1
- Early career researchers at the University of Basel who are aiming for an academic career and have already distinguished themselves through outstanding achievements can respond to the call for applications.
Travel fund - current submissions
- New additional offer: Early career researchers (doctoral students and postdocs) who are breastfeeding and wish to attend conferences and other such events with their baby are permitted to submit travel expenses for a companion.
Crossborder Education Grant - Submissions: March until mid-April
- Promotion of innovative bi- and multinational teaching at Master's/Doctorate level within the Upper Rhine university network Eucor
Scientific retreats - deadline February 1 and October 1.
- Every year, the Vice President’s Office for Research makes a certain amount of money available for doctoral students and postdocs to organize and run early career researcher events (presenting their own research and enabling academic exchange).
Nikolaus and Bertha Burckhardt-Bürgin Foundation - Deadline February 1
In accordance with the available funds, the Nikolaus and Bertha Burckhardt-Bürgin Foundation gives priority to completion funding for dissertations in the natural sciences.

Academic edition contributions - ongoing submissions.
- Enrolled doctoral students and postdocs employed at the University of Basel can obtain a one-off contribution of up to CHF 500 toward the cost of publishing their own research in English (papers, book chapters, conference contributions). The University of Basel Language Center offers an editing service for researchers; other editing services may also be used.
Oxford University Press: journal articles provided free of charge
Negotiations for a Read&Publish agreement with Oxford University Press have failed. This means that there is currently no access to articles published from 2022 onward. Until further notice, the University Library Basel will provide these articles to members of the University of Basel free of charge: https://ub.unibas.ch/en/services/register-borrow-order/#c18024. Please make sure that the main email address in your switch edu-ID account is the email address of the University or the University Hospital. Otherwise, free provision cannot be guaranteed.
