Dear avuba members,

We invite you to the avuba General Meeting 2024 and to drinks and snacks after the meeting!

Date: Monday, 2 December 2024
Time: 6 pm until approximately 8 pm (We will start at 6pm sharp, please arrive on time.)
Place: Kollegienhaus (Petersplatz 1), room 120 (a hybrid, passive participation without voting rights via Zoom is also possible)

Voting rights
Only avuba members present at the General Meeting will have the right to vote. If you are attending passively via zoom, please remember that you won’t be able to vote and/or to ask questions.
In order to know whether a person physically attending the meeting will be able to vote, avuba will have to do an identity check before you can enter the room. Non-members will be asked to take a seat in the back of the lecture hall (room 120). Please, arrive 10 minutes before 18.00, as the verification of voting rights takes some time. avuba will bring a list with the names of all avuba members. Please bring a valid identity card.

Documents
As there won’t be time for reading all the documents during the meeting, please prepare by reading these files beforehand either in English or in German:

  • Minutes of the General Meeting held on 27 November 2023 (English link, German link) – we will vote on whether you approve of the minutes or not
  • Minutes of the Extraordinary General Meeting held on 11 June 2024 (English link, German link) – we will vote on whether you approve of the minutes or not
  • Annual report 2023 (English linkGerman link) – we will vote on whether you approve of the content of the document or not
  • Report of the auditors (English linkGerman link) – we will vote on whether you approve of the content of the document or not

Resolutions – according to the avuba bylaws, (English linkGerman link) – are passed with a simple majority of members present at the General Meeting voting via the raising of hands. This means that the majority of members present at the voting must agree in order for a resolution to pass.

avuba co-presidents 2025: Application and election
The avuba co-presidents will be elected for a one-year term by the participating avuba members at the General Meeting. avuba co-presidents are working with a 20% workload and are remunerated in accordance with the University of Basel doc 2 tarif. The salary can be paid out as a fee. The co-presidium is part of the avuba executive board and ideally consists of one doctoral researcher and one postdoc from different faculties. Good German language skills are required, since most university documents are written in German and most meetings take place in German. For more information regarding the task as avuba co-president, you can read the job description (English linkGerman link). All candidates will get a chance to present themselves at the general assembly before the vote. The two people with the majority of votes will be elected as co-presidents for 2025. The current avuba co-presidents Lars Fluri, doctoral researcher at the Faculty of Business and Economics, as well as Antonia Vogler, doctoral researcher at the Faculty of Humanities, will stand for another year.

Additional avuba board member 2025: Election and application
Anyone who would like to get actively involved with avuba can run for election as an additional member of the avuba board on 2 December 2024. The avuba members present at the General Meeting will elect not only the co-presidents, but also any additional avuba board members for 2025. If you are interested, please contact Patricia by 22 November 2024.
