Beyond the scholar. Well-being in international relocations – a family affair?

You are cordially invited to the next Café international talk, hosted by the International Office, the Language Center, and avuba.

International mobility affects more than individual scholars’ careers – it reshapes personal relationships and family networks.

How can professional success align with the demands of relocation What happens when the challenges remain unspoken or unaddressed?

Dr. phil. Katja Herrmann Aegerter answers your questions, drawing on findings from the Faculty of Psychology’s “Home Abroad” study and her personal experience of relocation. Her talk maps aspects of resilience and coping strategies to mitigate the disruption of partners’ careers, shifting family roles, adaptation of children, isolation and the emotional effort of new beginnings. She identifies institutional resources and points out ways in which universities (can) support mobile researchers and their whole family systems to manage the challenges of academic mobility.

Incoming and outgoing scholars and research students with or without current care roles, as well as their partners and family members of all ages, are warmly invited.
