Get involved in avuba!

Would you like to help shape avuba and represent the interests of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers? Apply to become a co-president or an additional executive board member. Elections will take place at the General Meeting, where candidates will briefly introduce themselves before the vote.

Co-presidency (two paid positions, 20% each)

  • Both co-presidents are elected for one year. Current co-president Micha Bigler, doctoral researcher at the Faculty of Medicine, is standing for re-election. Optimally, the co-presidency consists of one doctoral researcher and one postdoctoral researcher, representing different faculties and genders.
  • avuba’s internal work can be conducted in English. However, as communication with university management, internal documents and many university meetings are primarily in German, at least one co-president should have very good German language skills. Responsibilities can be divided accordingly.
  • The 20% position is remunerated according to the University of Basel Doc 2 salary scale. For those already employed at 100%, remuneration may also be paid as an honorarium.
  • Further information is available in the job description (English or German).

Additional executive board member (voluntary, unpaid)

  • Additional board members are elected for one year and may stand for re-election.
  • You help shape avuba’s activities, represent doctoral and postdoctoral researchers and contribute to managing avuba’s affairs and representing avuba within the University.

Interested in either role? Send a short motivation email to Patricia, co-general manager, at avuba@unibas.ch by November 15, 2026.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the current co-presidents, your faculty representatives or the avuba general managers Patricia and Steffi at avuba@unibas.ch.

Hope to see you soon,

Micha Bigler and Tomás Sousa
avuba co-presidents
